When you use Myend, you’re trusting us with some of the most personal information there is — your wishes, your accounts, your goodbyes to the people you love. We take that seriously. This article explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how you stay in control of it at every step.
It’s a plain-language companion to our full Privacy Policy, which is the legal document of record. If the two ever seem to differ, the Privacy Policy governs.
The short version
- Your plan is end-to-end encrypted, using AES-256, and encrypted client-side — meaning it’s locked before it ever leaves your device.
- Myend staff cannot read your plan. There’s no back door.
- Your answers are never used to train AI models — not ours, not anyone else’s.
- You can print, export, or delete anything you’ve entered, at any time.
- Your plan is yours. If you ever leave Myend, everything goes with you.
- Nobody — including a Legacy Contact you’ve named — can see your plan while you’re alive, except you.
What we collect, and why
Myend is a guided conversation that becomes a real, shareable end-of-life plan. To build that plan, we collect what you choose to tell us as you work through it:
- Directives — your funeral, healthcare, euthanasia, donor, and Last Will wishes (Last Will is US-only, on the Complete plan).
- Contacts — the people in your plan, including anyone you name as a Legacy Contact (trustee).
- Vault entries — account credentials and instructions for what should happen to each one (delete, transfer, memorialize, or extract data/funds).
- Messages, Belongings, and Memory Lane entries — goodbye letters, who gets what, and the life stories you want remembered.
- Documents you upload, such as insurance policies, deeds, or certificates.
- Account and billing information needed to run your account and process a one-time purchase (Starter or Complete).
We collect this so the product can do its one job: turn your answers into a plan your family can actually use. We don’t collect it to advertise to you, sell it, or build a profile of you for any other purpose.
How your plan is protected
Your plan is encrypted client-side with AES-256 before it’s stored, and the connection is end-to-end encrypted. Because encryption happens on your device, Myend staff cannot read the contents of your plan — not to help with support, not for any internal reason. This is also why it matters that you keep your own login secure: nobody else, including us, can recover the plan for you by looking at it directly.
Vault entries specifically — your account logins, 2FA recovery codes, and similar credentials — get the same AES-256, client-side encryption as the rest of your plan. Never share a password with Justine or in a chat message; the vault form is the secure place to store it.
Justine and your data
Justine, Myend’s AI planning companion, helps you complete your plan and answers questions along the way. Whatever you tell Justine as part of that conversation is never used to train AI models — not by Myend, not by any underlying AI provider. Your answers stay part of your private plan, not a training set.
Justine’s allowance is generous and designed to be plenty to complete your plan, but it isn’t unlimited — plans include a set amount of AI conversation, refreshed with Complete’s annual renewal.
Who can see your plan — and when
While you’re alive, only you can see your plan. That includes anyone you’ve named as a Legacy Contact — they have no access, no matter how the account is configured, until all of the following are true:
- Your Proof of Life check-ins have lapsed (Complete plan — you set the schedule; Myend sends reminders first, then escalates).
- The Legacy Contact has their unique Access Key.
- They’ve verified their email address.
All three have to line up — nothing is released by a single missed check-in or a guessed link. Once access is granted, a Legacy Contact can see your finalized directives, your goodbye messages, your contact list, and any vault items or documents you’ve chosen to share with them. They cannot edit, delete, or add to your plan, and they have no access at all while you’re alive.
Your control over your own data
At any time, you can:
- Export your plan, including PDF export of your directives (Starter and Complete).
- Print anything you’ve written.
- Delete individual entries or your account entirely.
- Update any directive, contact, or vault entry as your circumstances change.
If you ever stop using Myend or let a Complete-plan renewal lapse, you keep everything you’ve made — viewable and exportable, for good. Data portability isn’t a favor Myend does you; it’s built into how the product works.
