What are personal Vaults?

4 min read Updated July 17, 2026

We all have data scattered across dozens of accounts today — email, banking, social media, subscriptions, crypto wallets, even the Wi-Fi password for the house. Myend’s Vault is where you bring that scattered digital life into one secure place, so the people you trust aren’t left guessing or locked out when you’re gone.

Think of the Vault as a set of secure entries for your accounts and credentials — each one holding what someone would actually need to access, close, or preserve that account, plus clear instructions on what to do with it.

How the Vault is protected

Everything you store in the Vault is encrypted client-side with AES-256 before it ever leaves your device. Myend cannot read your vault entries, and your answers are never used to train AI models. Nobody — including a Legacy Contact — can see what’s inside until access is actually granted.

One important habit: never type a password or credential directly into a chat with Justine. Justine can help you set up a vault entry and decide what belongs in it, but the credential itself should always be entered securely through the Vault form, not typed into a conversation.

What you can store

Vault entries are organized into categories, so things stay easy to find:

  • Passwords (general logins)
  • Banking (bank accounts)
  • Financial (investments, crypto wallets)
  • Email
  • Social media
  • Websites
  • Computers and phones (unlock codes)
  • Other (Wi-Fi passwords, safe combinations, anything that doesn’t fit elsewhere)

If an account uses two-factor authentication, it’s worth adding the 2FA recovery codes to that entry too — without them, even a correct password may not be enough to get back in.

Telling Myend what should happen to each account

A password on its own only answers “how do I get in?” The Vault also asks the more important question: “what should happen to this account?” For each entry, you choose a death action:

  • Delete — remove the account entirely
  • Memorialize — keep it as a memorial (supported by platforms like Facebook and Instagram)
  • Full access — give your trustee complete access to the account
  • Extract data — download photos, files, or data before the account is closed
  • Extract funds — withdraw money or crypto
  • Special request — custom instructions for anything that doesn’t fit the above

You also assign who is responsible for each account — one of your contacts. That way nobody is left wondering whether they’re allowed to act, or guessing what you would have wanted.

A quick but important note on crypto: for cryptocurrency wallets, the private key or seed phrase is the only way in. There’s no “forgot password” option and no customer support line to call. If it isn’t stored somewhere your trustee can find it, the funds are gone for good.

When the Vault unlocks

Your Vault stays private while you’re alive — nobody can see inside it, not even a Legacy Contact. Access only opens up once three things are all true:

  1. Your Proof of Life check-ins have gone unanswered and the system has escalated
  2. Your Legacy Contact has their Access Key
  3. Their email is verified

Proof of Life is Myend’s way of making sure nothing is released by accident: you set a check-in schedule, and if you stop responding, Myend escalates — starting with gentle reminders to you, and only notifying your Legacy Contacts if those go unanswered too. Nothing unlocks on a single missed check-in.

Once access is granted, your Legacy Contact can see the vault entries you’ve shared with them, along with your finalized directives, your goodbye messages, and your contact list — and they can carry out the death action you specified for each account. They still can’t change your plan or delete anything you didn’t authorize; they’re acting on your instructions, not their own judgment.

Getting started

The Vault is available on every plan, including Free — which includes up to 10 vault documents so you can see how it works before deciding whether to unlock more. Starter and Complete raise that limit and add full PDF export, so you can keep a backup outside the app whenever you like. On Complete, your Vault (along with the rest of your plan) is also backed up via cloud sync and made available through the legacy portal for your Legacy Contacts.

A good place to start: add the handful of accounts that would cause real problems if no one could get into them — your primary email, online banking, and anything with two-factor authentication turned on. You can always come back and add more later.
