Your Vault is where you keep the accounts, passwords, and access codes your family will need someday — things like your phone unlock code, your email login, or your Facebook account. Each item you store is encrypted, private, and stays that way until it’s actually needed. Here’s exactly who can see what, and when.
What the Vault is for
The Vault holds the digital credentials your Legacy Contacts will need to act on your wishes — email accounts, banking logins, social media, crypto wallets, phone unlock codes, Wi-Fi passwords, safe combinations, and similar items. For each one, you assign a death action that tells your family what to do with it: delete it, memorialize it (Facebook and Instagram both support memorializing an account), give a trustee full access, extract the data or funds first, or leave a special request with custom instructions. You also choose who gets access to each item — it doesn’t have to be the same person for everything.

Who can see what you store in your Vaults?
While you’re alive, nobody but you can see inside your Vault — not Myend staff, not your Legacy Contacts, no one. Everything is encrypted with AES-256, and credentials are encrypted client-side before they ever leave your device, so Myend cannot read what you’ve stored even if we wanted to. Your answers are never used to train AI models, either.
After your passing has been verified, access opens up — but not all at once, and not to everyone equally:
- Your Legacy Contacts can see an overview of your Vault — the type of each account and who it was assigned to — without seeing every password by default. If you assigned specific items to them, they get full access to those.
- Other contacts (not marked as Legacy Contacts) only see the specific accounts or keycodes you assigned to them. Nothing else in your Vault is visible to them.
One important note if a Vault item holds cryptocurrency: the private key or seed phrase is the only way anyone will ever access those funds. If it’s lost, the funds are gone for good — so make sure that entry is accurate and current.
When do my contacts get access to my Vaults?
Access doesn’t open on a single signal — it requires three things to line up:
- An Access Key held by the Legacy Contact.
- Email verification of that Legacy Contact.
- Your Proof of Life check-ins lapsing.
Proof of Life is an automated check-in schedule you set up yourself. If you stop responding to check-ins, Myend doesn’t jump straight to notifying anyone — it escalates gradually, starting with gentle reminders to you, and only reaching out to your Legacy Contacts if those go unanswered. Nothing is released by accident, and while you’re alive and checking in normally, your Legacy Contacts have no way to see or unlock your Vault.
Once your passing is verified this way, your Legacy Contacts and any other assigned contacts get access to exactly the Vault items described above — no more, no less. Until then, security isn’t an afterthought layered on top of the Vault; it’s the reason the Vault works the way it does.
