Security

Your Myend plan holds some of the most sensitive information you’ll ever record — account credentials, financial details, medical wishes, and private messages to the people you love. This article explains how Myend protects that information, and what you can do to keep your account secure.

How your data is protected

Myend is end-to-end encrypted. Sensitive information — like the credentials and account details you store in your Vault — is encrypted client-side using AES-256 encryption, so Myend staff cannot read your plan.

Your answers are never used to train AI models. Whatever you tell Justine while building your plan stays part of your private plan, not a training set.

Your plan is yours. You can print, export, or delete anything at any time, and if you ever leave Myend, everything goes with you.

Signing in to Myend

It’s worth securing your account with Myend’s two-step verification. In your account settings, you can check when your password was last updated, and see:

  • Whether you’ve signed in from your phone
  • Whether two-step verification is currently turned on

Turning on two-step verification means a password alone isn’t enough to get into your account — it’s one of the simplest things you can do to keep years of planning safe.

Ways we can verify your identity

If we notice suspicious activity on your account, or if you need help recovering access, we can use the following to verify it’s really you and to get in touch:

  • Recovery phone
  • Recovery email

Keeping these up to date means we can always reach you — and only you — if something looks wrong.

Securing what’s inside your Vault

Your Vault is where account credentials, banking logins, social media details, crypto wallet information, phone unlock codes, Wi-Fi passwords, and safe combinations live — all encrypted client-side with AES-256. A few habits keep it trustworthy over time:

  • Include 2FA recovery codes alongside the accounts they belong to
  • Assign a death action to each entry — delete, transfer, or memorialize — so your family knows what to do with it
  • Keep entries updated as passwords change, so the Vault stays accurate rather than a snapshot of an old account

One important exception: if you hold cryptocurrency, the private keys or seed phrase are the only way to access it. If they’re lost, the funds are gone forever — there’s no recovery process, so store them in the Vault with particular care.

Who can access your plan — and when

Nobody sees your plan while you’re living it out day to day — not even the people you’ve named to receive it. Access is controlled by two things working together: Legacy Contacts and Proof of Life.

A Legacy Contact is someone you trust — a spouse, adult child, or close friend — to access your account after you pass. You add them, mark them as a Legacy Contact, and send an invitation; they get a free Myend account of their own. When the time comes, they receive an Access Key and are notified once your Proof of Life check-ins go unanswered. From there they can view your finalized directives, read the goodbye messages left for them, see your contact list, and reach shared Vault items — nothing more, and nothing before that point.

Proof of Life is what makes the timing safe. It’s a set of automated check-ins on a schedule you choose. If you stop responding, Myend escalates gradually — gentle reminders first, and only if those go unanswered does it notify your Legacy Contacts. Nothing is released by accident, and nothing is released early.

Choosing a Legacy Contact

Because a Legacy Contact will eventually see sensitive parts of your plan, choose someone you deeply trust with personal information.
